With the cool mornings and the changing leaves, I was reminded of a session from last fall that I had photographed right as the leaves had started changing color and I wanted to share that session with you now! I was never able to share any images previously as they wanted to surprise their parents with the photos for Christmas and I didn’t want to ruin any surprises so I waited. And then forgot about it. Now that fall is upon us I figured it was safe, and in season, to finally post their session! Meet the Behnke Siblings! They were a fun group to photograph and we had so much fun laughing and hanging out.

We met at the Mines of Spain up by the parking lot for the Julien Dubuque Monument and headed off into one of the nearby trails where we found a leaf covered dirt path and numerous oranges and yellows off in the background. It was a perfect location so we stayed there for the majority of the session. We ended up by the large trees near the memorial benches as the sun started setting more. I had a blast with the Behnke’s and I am certain their parents just loved the images they received of them for Christmas!

Have you noticed the trees have started changing colors already?? It’s that time of year again – FALL! I love the fall season – warm colors, hot chocolate, scarves, cute boots, pumpkins, and everything else associated with fall! Also, that means it’s time for my yearly fall mini sessions! Take just 20 minutes with me for some beautiful images with bold fall colors in the background! Location of session will be determined closer to the dates to ensure that we get the best spot with the most color! Once payment is received I will mail you the contract to fill out before the session so everything is on file and ready to go.

Zirkelbach Family // Family Session // Dubuque Family Portrait Photographer

I never had the chance to show off the Zirkelbach Family Session since relaunching my new websit/blog so here they are! I photographed them early last fall out at the Swiss Valley Nature Center and it was my first session out there! Their daughter Gennifer had won a free session with my earlier that year during one of my promotions I was excited to finally get to work with her and her family! I just love the color theme they came up with for their outfits as it really worked great together. We met up an hour before sunset so we could catch the “Golden Hour” when the sunlight is at its softest and warmest hues. It was a beautiful day out and the weather wasn’t too warm and sticky. We had a great time exploring Swiss Valley, finding a gorgeous field of tall grass as well as a small creek that ran through the area.

I will be posting more sessions from 2012 just because I have been dying to share them ever since I launched my new blog so check back for more!

The “W” Family // Family Session // Dubuque Family Portrait Photographer

First, I just want to say how good-looking this family is! I’ve known this family for a few years from church and they are just a joy to be around! The boys are so sweet – sometimes shy at times – but will be such a catch when they grow up! In addition, they are going to be big brothers to a baby sister in January! I photographed their entire session in the warehouse district and inside the newly renovated Millwork District apartment complex. It is absolutely gorgeous in there and offered a little oasis of scenery in the heart of the district. I even brought along my antique Radio Flyer tricycle for the boys to play with and take photos on and it was an immediate hit! I am looking forward to meeting their little daughter in January – I’m sure she will be a beautiful baby considering her mom and dad are just a gorgeous couple!

Sperfslage Family // Galena Family Portrait Photographer

Meet the Sperfslage family! I was contacted by one of the sisters to photograph their family at the Eagle Ridge Resort in Galena, Illinois and right then I wanted to do their session! I just love photographing out at Eagle Ridge Resort – the view overlooking the lake is just stunning and the rest of the resort is just so peaceful and gorgeous. This was my 4th time out there in the past year and each time I go back I always find a new place to photograph. The surrounding trails, the numerous green gold courses and the views along the lake make it a photographer’s dream.

Fast forward to the day of the session: the weather was perfect – maybe a little humid – but it was over all a decent day for photos. The sun peaked out a few times here and there and we worked around it but the majority of the session went seamlessly. I could tell towards the end of the session that the kids were ready to be done and so we finished up with a few more photos and called it a day. I was happy with the images I got and the kids did a great job hanging in as long as they did! It was so great to meet the Sperfslage family and to spend an hour or so with them and see them all having a great time! Trying to get the attention of a child, let alone a baby, can be tricky and when my Dr. Seuss Lorax squeaker didn’t work, I turned to my husband for help who ended up jumping behind me and looking goofy to get all the kids to look at me. It pays off to bring along reinforcements sometimes.
